Before You Cut Bangs is a podcast by your new best friends—Laura Quick and Claire Fierman—and they’re here to help you put the scissors down. Laura, a writer, marketer, and entrepreneur, is no stranger to putting in the work and holding herself—and her people—accountable. Claire, an expert in mental health with over 15 years of experience, is the person you want helping you navigate life’s challenges. Together, they approach hard things with humor, bringing perspective, nuance, and lots of laughs to life’s most sticky situations.

2 0 2 1 We went to do work in California together. Work, meaning therapy. We went to @experienceonsite the California campus. We gathered with a small group of women, all of us mental health advocates, many of which were therapists or held positions in the mental health space. Y’all, we believe the work is never done. It’s a life long endeavor. Because as we grow and evolve- as we dive into new relationships and go into new seasons- we reveal new opportunities to heal the parts of us we discover. And in order to keep moving through life healthily, it is work. We started this podcast to make mental health easier to talk about. We want this to be fun, we want our stories to make people feel less alone, we want to normalize new tools, we want you to LAUGH your heads off and want to share it with your best friends and significant others! @laura_l_quick and @claire.fierman met in 2021. It was a mutual friend @bakingbandits who said we should know one another. So we met at our favorite #birminghamalabama restaurant @essentialbham and both had to cancel meetings because we couldn’t stop talking. We laughed and I think we cried that first day. We talked about both navigating single motherhood and still being driven in our careers, we talked about our faith and the seasons when we had way more questions than answers, we talked about hilarious stories in relationships… it was dreamy meeting someone and KNOWING- WE ARE GONNA BE FRIENDS. That’s our hope with y’all. To feel like you are with us, sitting at the table and having real meaningful, hilarious and thought provoking convos when y’all are listening along to the podcast. Well, almost 1,000 listens in just a couple of days and we are SO THANKFUL!!!!!💗💇‍♀️ There is something so fun and freeing about real talk about real stuff and the common goal of doing it all with a sense of humor. Our hope is that our stories help our listeners feel less alone. And even if you can’t relate to the specific topic that you laugh and maybe share it with a friend. You will hear us use the term “phone a friend” a ton for the foreseeable future because we think change happens that way. If we can be in community with people that know how we are trying to grow and what we are trying to overcome- we can have healthy, trustworthy connections around us to reach out to when we are off our balance beam. A love letter to Laura, While I think most people are immediately drawn to your realness, unwavering truth telling, insanely white teeth, and your humor… I was sold with your humanity and humility. While your successful magazine and creative endeavors (which are unreal) always wow people… I became hooked on laura because you taught me that gratitude is better than fear. @claire.fierman is one of the coolest, realest friends. She is smart and no one has helped me understand the way our brains work when we move into survival more than Claire. And we do CRAZY stuff when we are making decisions in survival mode (hence all the bangs I’ve cut over the years).
